Sports activities: 6th Form Basketball, Boys football, Netball, Rugby, Badminton Team Practice (links to Ashby Club), Water Polo, Boys Hockey, Badminton, Girls Football, Girls Basketball, Girls Hockey, Cross Country and Ultimate Frisbee. Also 'Street dance' and 'Ultra Vibes'.
A variety of study support and enrichment activities: Post 16 students involved in a 'right to read' scheme, sports coaching and Da Vinci with local primary schools. All faculty areas provide after school revision and 'catch up' sessions.
Programme of music groups: Wind, Jazz band, etc meeting either before school or at the end of the day. Various drama activities including school musical productions.
After school activities supported by provision of 'Late buses' on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Overseas Visits and Links with France, Spain, Germany, USA, Japan and South Africa. Develop further with proposed links to China and India.
School has numerous visits throughout the year to museums, theatres (London, Stratford). Fun trips e.g.'Paintballing', Ski Trips and Watersports.
Ashby School has an excellent Work Experience programme with links to several businesses. A series of outside speakers from industry come into school. Careers Evening is attended by all Further Education Colleges, Local employers, Emergency Services, Armed Forces etc. University visits are arranged. Skills for Management 3 day event takes place.
School has a thriving Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme programme with students involved at all levels of the awards (Gold, Silver and Bronze). School has 'House' system and students are encouraged to get involved with Charity Work, each 'House' chooses a charity and works tirelessly all year to raise funds, this involves many community activities. School enters National Competitions e.g. 'Young Enterprise', 'Green Power Car Competition' etc.
Football, rugby and hockey after school. Cross country club run by parents. Child organised ICT Lunch Club.Due to transport difficulties after school, the school is offering on Thursday afternoons in school time 'Albert Village University' a range of workshops involving parents/cooking/orienteering in 5 week sessions. Organised trips/holidays with children from other small schools witihin the family, i.e. Worthington, Newbold, Oakthorpe and Packington (to Cornwall in September). Study support - children use 'Tip Tops' at Ashby School.
Options information evenings for Year 9 Students (KS4) Year 11 students re post 16 studies. Question and Answer sessions for parents for new Year 10 and new Year 12 students. The Year Rooms are manned every night until 6pm for Parents to contact school when they get home from work. A directory of advice and support is also available. The Connexions Service work until 5.30pm one night a week for additional support to parents/students. Propose to introduce parent and child workshops in the D and T workshops, and to establish some parenting support group.
Integrated working with a multi-agency forum for children with additional needs. The forum includes, police, health, children services and voluntary services. Working with the Health Authority to establish the 'Teen Health Clinic' at Ashby hospital. Our Deputy Head chairs this group. School is represented on the local government Community Safety Partnership group consisting of Police, Drugs Team, Parish Councillors and Youth Offending Service.
Open facilities to the community to provide adult education. Extensive support to Primary School colleagues in Modern Foreign Languages. As a CISCO college we offer training in Computer Aided Areas to colleagues from other Colleges and schools. Ex-drama students use our facilities to rehearse for productions they take to the Edinburgh Festival. There is extensive use of the Sports Hall, Gym, Swimming Pool and Playing Fields by various community groups and local Junior Schools - Donisthorpe, Packington and Oakthorpe. Outside clubs - Adults etc. Clubs include: Guides, Ashfield Plc, Ivanhoe Y.C., Packington C.C., Tae Kwondo, Badminton Club, Sub Aqua, Basket Ball, Swim Club, Measham Keep Fit, Atlantis Swim Club.
