About Us

Overview

The Ashby Family of Schools has a membership of 16 schools. All schools are situated either in Ashby town centre or the surrounding rural areas. The sizes of the schools vary from very small rural primary schools, with less than 100 pupils on the roll, to two large secondary schools that together have over 2,500 pupils. The total number of pupils attending all schools in the Family exceeds 4,600. The ages of pupils range from the Foundation Stage to Post 16 Sixth Form. Taking these factors in consideration and then adding the issues surrounding transport and the availability of facilies at schools, it becomes clear that the needs and requirements when established extended school services will differ greatly from school to school.

Every Child Matters

When planning the introduction of extended services it is vital to consider the outcomes of the 'Every Child Matters' agenda, a successful extended school provides services and activities that ensures that ll pupils should:

– Stay healthy and safe
– Secure an excellent education and the highest possible standards of achievement
– Enjoy their childhood
– Make a positive contribution to society and the economy
– Have lives full of opportunity, free from the effects of poverty

For most children and young people their lives revolve around school, so it was logical that schools should become the focus for the delivery of children's services drawing together social and healthcare agencies to help children to 'enjoy and achieve' during their time at school.

Core Offers

A key way of delivering these outcomes is that the extended school works with the local authority, local providers and other schools to provide access to the 'Core Offers' of integrated services, which are listed as:

– A varied range of activities including study support, sport and music clubs, combined with childcare in primary schools.
– Parenting and family support
– Swift and easy access to targeted and specialist services
– Community access to facilities including adult and family learning, ICT and sports grounds
